You are about to complete a two year journey that has exposed you to the many facets of visual arts and the processes of art making. DP Visual arts is a rigorous, pre-university level visual arts course designed for students who are committed to developing their studio and research skills in order to evolve into “thinking” artists. If you are dedicated, you will emerge after your final exhibition as skilled and articulate young artists who can express compelling themes in your artwork. You will also fully understand the value of process, reflection, experimentation and research.
You will work largely independently this year and should expect to complete at least 7 pieces by April for the exhibition(in addition to what you did last year). The entire class will have set deadlines for pieces and we will have formal group critiques when each piece is finished. These critiques are equivalent to an exam and cannot be missed. At that time you will turn in your IWBs to me to be graded. Normally, a minimum of 10 pages per project is required. Of course, the amount of work and how it is graded depends on your option and level choice.
Your success in DP Visual Art depends largely on your commitment to developing as an artist. It is not an easy course and requires a large amount of discipline and hard work. I will work with you on developing your themes and ideas, but it is ultimately up to you to execute them. Punctuality and attendance are extremely important as you have many short classes. The art room is open to you any time. I hope to see you during lunch and any free periods.
